Last week, we had a few special visitors on our campus bringing an important recognition! Dr. Brenda Longshore, Superintendent of Schools, and Mrs. Stephanie Hanks, Director of Finance, presented our amazing bookkeeper, Ms. Donna Brown, with a certificate of achievement for receiving an outstanding audit for two years in a row. Ms. Brown is integral to the behind scenes work of Woodlawn and serves the students and staff selflessly. She’s a HUGE part of The Woodlawn Way and we are so grateful for her impact. #ItsSWEETtobeanEagle #TheWoodlawnWay

On National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, we want to take the time to give a Woodlawn shout out to Officer Diego Serrano! Anybody who steps foot on our campus knows that Officer Diego serves with integrity, builds amazing relationships with everyone on campus, and ensures our staff and students are safe. Our Leadership Ambassadors had the privilege to use our Ag Angels funds to shop for kids this Christmas season. Families and students enjoyed checking off all the things on the wish lists and celebrating the giving spirit of Christmas! Thanks to Ag Angels for giving back to our community in such a special way. Last evening was our Winter Concert for our Show Choir, Synerchimes, and Eagle chorus under the direction of Mrs. Ritenour. Our leaders shared their genius proudly and sounded amazing. ✨Christmas at the Plaza✨ Last Thursday was our annual Mom and Daughter social! Moms and daughters dressed for a night in the city as they enjoyed a delicious meal, dessert trays, fun holiday crafts, charades, games, and ended it with a Christmas Carol sing-a-long! A huge shout out to our amazing staff who organized this event and a thank you to First Baptist Church for the use of their facilities. Our Leadership Ambassadors got a chance to serve at The Mission to help them prepare for their Thanksgiving feed tomorrow. Our leaders peeled potatoes, shucked corn, baked desserts, made hygiene bags, made PB&J sandwiches and grab n go lunchable bags. Our leaders loved serving and giving back during this thankful season. Before the break we had our November Leadership Luncheon! Students earn SOAR bucks and House Points and they can spend them on different incentives. This is the top prize and these leaders have been saving up big time. Today we got to celebrate them by taking them to lunch at Wendy’s. Before the break, was our annual Heart of Thanks breakfast for our wonderful staff. It’s room service style, delivered by our Leadership Ambassadors. We are so grateful for every person on this campus who make this school such a special place. If you ever wonder what makes “The Woodlawn Way”…It’s the people who fill our hallways and on this Thanksgiving we want them to know how thankful we are for them. Thursday was Friendship Luncheon in Kindergarten. Students have been learning about Native Americans and Pilgrims and they practiced the first Thanksgiving by sharing a meal together. Students got to sample Pumpkin Pie, Apple Pie, Cranberry, and even made their own butter to put on cornbread. Learning is fun when you do it, #TheWoodlawnWay. #ItsSWEETtobeanEagle

We hosted a V.I.P. (Very Impressive Progress) Lunch for some of our leaders who have made amazing progress since last school year. Students were surprised with a VIP backstage pass and got to celebrate with games and lunch on stage! Leaders are all about growth and these kids are rocking it. Last night, our Show Choir presented on the character word of the month, Respect, at our School Board meeting! Yesterday, our 3rd graders finished up their study on The Human Body! Our leaders became surgeons for the day and had a blast while learning. A huge shout out and thank you to Grace and Heart OBGYN and HCA Hospital for donating medical supplies to bring the learning to life. #itssweettobeaneagle #thewoodlawnway

Faculty Meeting turned Friendsgiving is just what was needed! We enjoyed delicious treats, spending time with each other, playing games with our teams (and even challenged ourselves to find two people we’ve talked to less than 3 times this year), and ending it with breaking ground on the next phase of the Woodlawn legacy. Our 3rd graders had the opportunity to attend the annual Ag Ventures field trip hosted by our local agriculture community. Our students were immersed in hands on stations learning about local agriculture topics. We are blessed to live in a community that believes in not only our future generation but also the future of agriculture.
